Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 5 c
  • buttermilk - 2 c
  • baking powder - 1 Tbsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • warm water - 2 3
  • active dry yeast - 1 pkg

How to make angel biscuits:

Dissolve yeast in water. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix in shortening with a fork until crumbly. Stir in yeast and buttermilk. Roll on floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a floured cutter and place on baking pan. Bake at 400° for 10 to 20 minutes.

Note: The dough will keep in refrigerator for a day or two. Allow biscuits to raise when taken from refrigerator before baking. Makes 3 dozen.
