Ingredients/Components
- active yeast - 1 Tbsp
- lukewarm water - 2 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/4 c
- self-rising flour - 1 c
- all-purpose flour
- sugar - 1/4 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
How to make angel biscuits:
Preheat oven to 425°. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Mix flour, sugar and baking soda. Cut in shortening. Mix yeast and buttermilk. Add yeast mixture to flour mixture.Turn out on lightly floured board and knead 4 or 5 times. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness and use 2 1/2-inch cookie cutter to cut biscuits. Cover and let rise in warm place, free of drafts for 10 to 15 minutes. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until tops are golden. Yields 15 biscuits.
