  • sugar - 6 c
  • salt - 2 c
  • boiling water - 1 gal
  • vinegar - 5 pt
  • alum - 1 Tbsp
  • turmeric - 1 tsp
  • cucumbers - 2 gal
  • pickling spice - 1 Tbsp

How to make 14 day pickles:

Put the cucumbers into a stone jar, washed and sliced. Dissolve salt in the boiling water and pour over the cucumbers. Cover and pour 1 gallon boiling water. Weight down. Let stand 1 week.

On the 8th day, drain and pour 1 gallon boiling water. Let stand 24 hours.

On the 9th day, drain and pour the boiling water with 1 tablespoon alum. Let stand 24 hours.

On the 10th day, drain again. Put boiling water in and let stand 24 hours. Drain.

On the 11th day, heat the pickling mixture to a boil; put over cucumbers. Drain and save mixture to pour over for 3 mornings. Add 1 cup sugar each morning; heat and pour over cucumbers. Pack into sterilized jars on the 14th day.
