  • sugar - 12 c
  • vinegar - 1 qt
  • pickles - 2 gal
  • Let set 7 days

How to make sweet dill pickles:

Cover with cold salt water (1 cup salt per gallon). Let set 7 days. If scum forms, skim and add more salt.

8th Day: Pour off salt brine. Cover with grape leaves and cover with boiling water.

9th Day: Pour off water and cover with boiling water with 1 tablespoon alum per gallon of water.

10th and 11th Day: Reheat brine and pour on pickles (brine recipe follows).

12th Day: Cut pickles into lengthwise and cover with hot brine.

13th Day: Reheat brine and put on pickles.

14th Day: Reheat syrup and add pickles. Bring to boil and seal.Brine:1 (1 to 2 oz.) box mixed pickling spices, tied in bag1 qt. vinegar12 c. sugar Put a sprig or 2 of dill on top of each jar.
