Texas pecan pie
Ingredients/Components
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 3/4 tsp
- granulated sugar - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- evaporated milk - 1/2 c
- water - 3 Tbsp
- shortening - 2/3 c
- all-purpose flour
- pecan halves
- brown sugar, firmly packed
How to make texas pecan pie:
Filling:1 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed1/2 c. granulated sugar1/4 c. water2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour1/2 tsp. salt2 eggs1/2 c. evaporated milk1 1/2 c. pecan halves3/4 tsp. vanilla Crust: Mix flour and salt together; add shortening and cut in flour with fork or pastry blender. Add water and mix gently with fork in stirring motion. Gather pastry into a ball and place in pie tin. With tips of fingers, spread pastry along bottom and sides of pie tin, shaping a high, fluted edge. Makes 1 (9 inch) pie shell.Filling: Combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, water, flour and salt in small bowl and mix well. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time. Add evaporated milk and mix well. Stir in pecan halves and vanilla. Mix well and turn into unbaked 9 inch pie shell. Cook in preheated 400° oven for 10 minutes; reduce heat to 350° and cook an additional 35 to 40 minutes, or until filling is puffed in center and is well browned. Let pie cool before cutting.
