Swiss steak
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- shortening - 3 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- can tomatoes, cut up - 1 lb
- onion, chopped - 1/2 c
- green pepper, chopped - 2 Tbsp
- beef round steak 1-inch thick - 2 lb
How to make swiss steak:
Combine flour, salt and pepper; pound into meat. In large skillet, brown meat on both sides in hot shortening. Top with onion and tomatoes. Cover; cook over low heat about 1 1/2 hours or until tender. Or, transfer to a 12 x 7 x 2-inch baking dish and cook covered at 350° for 1 1/2 hours. Add green pepper; cook 15 minutes more. Skim off excess fat. Thicken juices, if desired. Season to taste. Serves 6.Recipe categories: American, Main dish, North american.
