Swedish nuts
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- semi-sweet chocolate - 10 oz
- brown sugar
- butter - 1/2 c
- water - 3/4 c
- egg yolks - 3 item
- heavy cream
- all-purpose flour
- egg whites - 2 item
- dash of salt - 1 item
- pecan halves - 1 lb
- lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
- ground cinnamon - 1 item
- unsalted butter, softened - 2 oz
- 1/4 stick butter - 2 Tbsp
- speck of salt - 1 item
- anisette liqueur
- cocoa for dusting - 1 item
- very large cooking apples, preferably Northern Spy - 4 item
- ice cream or half and half - 1 item
How to make swedish nuts:
Preheat oven to 375°. Core and quarter the apples; do not peel. Place the apples in a 3-quart buttered baking dish.Combine the brown sugar, flour and salt in a small bowl. Stir in the lemon juice and water and pour this mixture over the apples. Dot with butter and sprinkle cinnamon over all to taste. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour, basting twice. Serve warm. The apples are nice with a dollop of ice cream on top or pass a pitcher of cream.
Note: In the beginning the apples may crowd one another, but they shrink during baking. If you can't find Northern Spys, try Cortlands or Granny Smith apples.
