  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • vanilla
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking powder
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 2/3 c
  • orange peel, grated - 1/2 tsp
  • milk or orange juice - 4 tsp

How to make sugar cookies:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and orange peel. Mix well.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Divide in half. Chill one hour. Keep half of the dough chilled while you roll the other half. Roll 1/8-inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes.
