Soft pretzels
Ingredients/Components
- active dry yeast - 1 pkg
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- warm water - 1 c
- all-purpose flour - 2 to
- salt - 1 tsp
- salad oil - 2 Tbsp
- each salt and water - 1 white,
- caraway seed or coarse salt - 1 item
How to make soft pretzels:
Dissolve yeast and sugar in water. Let set 5 to 10 minutes. Add 2 cups of flour, salt and oil. Beat until smooth. Gradually put in more flour to make dough soft. Knead dough until smooth and elastic. Add more dough, if sticky. Place dough into greased bowl; cover and let set until risen (45 minutes to 1 hour).Punch dough. Divide into 12 equal balls. Roll out with hands to form an 18-inch long rope. Twist into pretzel shape. Tuck ends under. Place on baking sheet. Let rise, uncovered (20 to 25 minutes).
Brush pretzels with egg white mixture. Sprinkle with caraway seed or coarse salt. Bake at 425° for 12 to 15 minutes until well browned.
