Shanghai casserole
Ingredients/Components
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- hot water - 2 3
- can chow mein noodles - 1 item
- soy sauce - 3 Tbsp
- onion salt - 1/4 tsp
- onions - 3/4 c
- can mushrooms undrained - 1 item
- boneless pork, cut in strips - 1/2 lb
- boneless veal, cut in strips - 1/2 lb
How to make shanghai casserole:
Saute onions in shortening. Remove from pan; brown pork and veal. Add soy sauce and onion salt. Pour hot water over meat; simmer for 30 minutes. Add diced celery; simmer for 15 minutes. Add all vegetables. Combine cornstarch and water into smooth paste; add to mixture, stirring, until clear. Bake at 400° for 20 to 27 minutes.
