Raisin bran bread
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1/2 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- raisins
- light molasses - 2 Tbsp
- dry yeast - 1 pkg
- milk, scalded
- all-bran cereal - 1 c
How to make raisin bran bread:
Stir scalded milk into cereal, shortening, molasses, sugar and salt. Cool. Dissolve dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Steam raisins in 1/4 cup water over medium heat; drain. Add 2 cups flour to bran mixture; beat vigorously by hand. Stir in yeast. Add raisins and remaining flour until dough forms around spoon.Turn out on a floured board and cover. Let stand for 5 minutes. Knead dough until it springs (about 5 minutes). Place in a greased bowl. Let rise until double. Punch down and let rise again.
Cut in half and shape into 2 loaves. Place in well-greased pans. Let stand until double. Bake at 400° about 30 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pans. Brush with butter.
