Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3 c
- eggs - 5 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- butter
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- all-purpose flour
- lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
How to make pound cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour 10-inch tube pan; set aside. In large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs, lemon juice and vanilla. Beat at low speed of electric mixer until blended, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed for 5 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk, beating after each addition until batter is smooth.Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 350° for 80 to 90 minutes or until deep golden brown and wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 20 minutes. Invert onto serving dish. Cool completely. Makes 1 (10- inch) tube cake.
Caramel Pound Cake: Follow the recipe, substituting 2 cups packed brown sugar and 1 cup granulated sugar for the 3 cups sugar. Substitute 1 teaspoon maple flavoring for the lemon juice and vanilla.
Chocolate Pound Cake: Follow the recipe, increasing butter to 1 3/4 cups. Omit lemon juice and add 1/2 cup cocoa with flour.
