Ingredients/Components

  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • all-purpose flour
  • oatmeal - 1 c
  • melted shortening - 1/2 c
  • lemon extract - 1/2 tsp
  • sour milk or buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • nuts or raisins if desired - 1/4 c

How to make oatmeal cookies:

Melt shortening; mix with oatmeal. Combine egg with sugar and add oatmeal mixture. Stir soda into milk. Add flour to first mixture alternately with milk. Add flavoring and cinnamon. Stir in floured nuts or raisins. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in a 375° oven until lightly browned, about 15 minutes.
