  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • all-purpose flour
  • white sugar - 1 c
  • sour milk - 3/4 c
  • baking cocoa - 1/3 c
  • lemon or vanilla extract - 1 item
  • egg shortening - 1 item

How to make my mom's chocolate cake:

Cream the first 4 ingredients together. Sift all dry ingredients together. Add sugar mixture and sour milk alternately to the flour and mix well. Pour into two 8-inch greased and floured round pans or a 9 x 13 x 2-inch greased and floured pan. Bake at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes or until it tests done. Let cool before removing from the pans onto wire rack to finish cooling.
