Ingredients/Components

  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • sweet milk - 1 c
  • shortening - 4 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • to 2 eggs - 1 item
  • yeast cake - 1 item
  • flour for kneading - 1 item

How to make jelly doughnuts:

Scald milk, sugar, salt and shortening. Add 1 cup of cold water, yeast cake, nutmeg and well beaten egg(s). Flour as needed for kneading. After dough has been properly kneaded, put in warm place to rise for about 45 minutes. Roll out and let rise again after cutting with cookie cutter. Fry as any other doughnut. Slit open. Fill with jelly. Close them up. Serve fresh. Makes about 2 dozen.
