  • salt - 1 tsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • cornmeal - 2 c
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • melted fat or vegetable oil - 1 item

How to make hush puppies:

Combine cornmeal, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add egg and milk; beat until smooth; stir in onion. Heat fat or oil in skillet (have it at least 3 inches deep) to 375°. Drop batter by spoonfuls into fat. Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towel. Makes about 20.
