• sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/2 c
  • light corn syrup - 2 c
  • cans sweetened condensed milk - 2 oz
  • or 2 sticks margarine - 1/2 lb

How to make caramels:

In heavy saucepan melt butter. Add corn syrup and sugar. Boil for 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly. Add 1 1/2 cans of milk. Mix flour with rest of milk. Add to syrup mixture. Boil until darkens and forms medium hard ball (240°). Stir constantly or mixture will stick. Add vanilla and pour into buttered 9 x 13-inch pan. Cool and cut into 1-inch pieces. Wrap in wax paper.
