  • granulated sugar
  • milk - 1 c
  • flour - 3 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • egg whites - 5 item
  • nuts - 1 c
  • extract - 1 tsp
  • Sift flour and baking powder

How to make hickory nut cake:

Cream butter and sugar. Sift flour and baking powder. Add alternately with milk. Then add well beaten egg whites. Add nuts. Bake in layers put together with Caramel Icing and nuts.Caramel Frosting:1 1/2 c. brown sugar1 1/2 c. granulated sugar1 1/2 c. milk2 Tbsp. butter Combine sugars and milk and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Then boil without stirring until a small amount of syrup forms a soft ball in cold water. Add butter and remove from fire. Beat until right consistency.
