Ingredients/Components

  • dry yeast - 1 pkg
  • warm water - 1/3 c
  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • powdered sage - 1/2 tsp
  • caraway seed - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • cooled, scalded milk - 3/4 c
  • sifted flour
  • egg - 1 item
  • soft shortening - 2 Tbsp

How to make herb rolls:

Add yeast to warm water. Measure sugar, salt, sage, caraway seed, nutmeg and milk into bowl. Blend, then add yeast mixture. Pour in about 1/2 of flour and beat until smooth. Add the egg, shortening and remaining flour and beat again. Cover and let rise until doubled. Grease 12 large muffin tins, filling half full. Let rise until batter reaches tops of muffin tins. Bake rolls 15 to 20 minutes at 400°.
