Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • molasses - 1/2 c
  • ginger - 1 tsp
  • sifted flour - 2 c
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • soft shortening - 1/4 c
  • baking soda, dissolved in 1/2 c - 1 tsp

How to make ginger creams:

Mix together shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Stir in baking soda and water. Sift together and stir in flour, salt, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon. Chill dough for 1 hour. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2-inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake until set when touched lightly, no imprint remains. Bake at 400° for 7 to 8 minutes. Makes 4 dozen 2-inch cookies.
