Ingredients/Components
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour - 3 Tbsp
- slices Swiss cheese - 6 item
- olive oil - 1 Tbsp
- cans beef broth - 3 item
- Spanish onions, sliced - 6 item
- slices Italian bread - 6 item
How to make hearty onion soup:
Cook onions in oil and butter in pot over medium heat, stirring frequently for 30 minutes or until softened and caramelized. Stir in flour to coat onions. Cook 1 minute. Slowly stir in broth. Cover and cook 20 minutes. Spoon soup into 6 individual ovenproof bowls. Top each with bread and cheese. Broil briefly to melt cheese.
