Ingredients/Components

  • sour cream - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • water - 2 Tbsp
  • lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded - 1/2 c
  • dry bread crumbs - 1/2 c
  • frozen green beans, julienne cut - 2 pkg

How to make green beans au gratin:

Cook green beans following directions on package. Drain and reserve. Melt butter in frying pan and saute onion until golden brown. Gradually stir in flour, water, salt, pepper and lemon juice. Simmer for 3 minutes. Combine with beans and sour cream. Pour mixture into a greased 2-quart casserole. Top with cheese and bread crumbs. Bake in 350° oven for 3 minutes. Serves 8 to 10.

Hint: Mix the cheese in with the beans and sour cream, saving some for on top with bread crumbs.
