  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • vegetable oil - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • unsweetened cocoa - 3/4 c
  • hot coffee - 1 c

How to make grandma's chocolate cake:

Grandma's Icing:1 c. milk5 Tbsp. flour1/2 c. butter, softened1/2 c. shortening1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla Sift together dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Add oil, coffee and milk; mix at medium speed 2 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla; beat 2 minutes more. Batter will be thin. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2-inch cake pans. Bake at 325° for 30 minutes. Cool cakes before removing from pans.

For icing, combine milk and flour in saucepan. Cook until thick, cover and refrigerate. In mixing bowl, beat butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add chilled milk and flour mixture; beat for 10 minutes. Frost cooled cakes.
