  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • mashed bananas - 1 c
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • ground nutmeg - 1/2 tsp

How to make grandma's banana bread:

Sift together 2 cups flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Cream together shortening and sugar. Blend in eggs and vanilla; mix well. Add dry ingredients and sugar mixture alternately to bananas, mixing just until blended. Combine pecans and 1 teaspoon flour; stir into batter. Pour into greased 9-inch tube pan. Bake in 350° oven for 45 - 50 minutes, or until bread tests done. Cool in pan on rack for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and place on rack. Makes one loaf.
