Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/3 c
- salt - 2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sifted flour - 4 c
- warm water - 1/2 c
- dry yeast - 1 cake
- scalded milk - 3/4 c
How to make country rolls:
Dissolve yeast in warm water for 10 minutes. Combine shortening, sugar and salt in mixing bowl. Add hot milk and stir to soften shortening. Let cool to lukewarm; add egg and dissolved yeast and beat with electric beater. Gradually beat in flour, 1 cup at a time, until dough is soft. Grease a 3-quart size bowl; place roll in and grease. Roll top. Cover with clean cloth. Set in a warm place to rise for 1 1/2 hours. Pinch off into small balls. Place in greased muffin tins. Cover; let rise for 1 hour. Brush tops with melted butter.
