Coffee cake

Ingredients/Components

• cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
• salt - 1/2 tsp
• flour
• brown sugar - 2 c
• nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
• soda - 1/2 tsp
• baking powder - 2 tsp
• shortening - 2/3 c
• nuts optional - 1 item
• well beaten eggs - 2 item
• sour milk* or 1 c - 1 c

How to make coffee cake:

Combine first 4 ingredients. Remove 1/2 cup of mixture to sprinkle on top of cake before baking. Add the baking powder, soda, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and nutmeg to remaining mixture. Add eggs and sour milk; beat until smooth. Pour into 2 (8-inch) greased cake pans.

Add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon to reserved mixture and sprinkle on top of batter. Nuts are optional.

*Add 1 tablespoon vinegar to a cup of sweet milk to make sour milk.
