Chop suey
Ingredients/Components
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- water - 2 Tbsp
- cooking oil - 3 Tbsp
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- large onions, chopped - 2 item
- can mushrooms - 1 oz
- soy sauce to taste - 1 item
- beef, cubed - 2 lb
- pork, cubed - 2 lb
- small can bamboo shoots - 1 item
- large bunch celery, chopped - 1 item
- small can water chestnuts, sliced thin - 1 item
- cans bean sprouts, drained save liquid - 3 item
How to make chop suey:
Brown meat. Put mushrooms, bamboo shoots, sliced water chestnuts and their liquids in a large pan. Add bean sprouts and 1/4 of the liquid. Add meat to vegetables. Fry onions and celery until they get a glossy look. Add to meat and vegetables. Add sugar, oil and soy sauce. Cook over medium heat. Cook about 40 to 45 minutes, then mix starch, water and a little liquid from bean sprouts and add to vegetables and meat. Cook 10 minutes more, then serve over rice or chow mein noodles.Recipe categories: < 4 hours, Time to make, Main dish.
