  • evaporated milk - 1/2 c
  • water - 1 c
  • cocoa - 1/4 c
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • margarine or butter - 1/2 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • nuts
  • self-rising flour - 2 c
  • eggs, slightly beaten - 2 item

How to make chocolate turtle cake:

Middle:1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels1/2 c. evaporated milk3/4 c. butter1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips1 1/2 c. nuts Bring margarine, shortening, cocoa and water to a boil in saucepan, then set aside. In a bowl mix flour and sugar, then add eggs and buttermilk. Pour half of batter into greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.

Combine caramels, milk and butter in saucepan. Heat until caramels are melted. Pour caramels over baked cake layer. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts. Pour remaining batter over top. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes longer. Cool.
