Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • cornstarch
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 1/2 c
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • molasses - 1 c
  • plain flour - 3 c
  • lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • ground ginger - 1 tsp
  • ground allspice - 1/2 tsp
  • lemon rind - 1 tsp

How to make gingerbread with lemon sauce:

Sauce:1 Tbsp. cornstarch1/2 c. sugar dash of salt1 c. boiling water2 Tbsp. lemon juice1 tsp. lemon rind Combine molasses and sugar; add butter. Slowly add boiling water; mix well and stir in egg. Add dry ingredients to molasses mixture. Pour in greased pan. Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes. Serve with lemon sauce.

Sauce: Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt. Boil until thickened and add lemon juice and rind.
