Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- butter or margarine - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- chopped nuts - 3/4 c
- butter
- water - 1 c
- cocoa - 1/4 c
- confectioners sugar - 1 lb
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- baking powder - 1/8 tsp
- dash of salt - 1 item
- plain flour - 2 c
- unsweetened cocoa - 1/4 c
- to 4 drops red food coloring optional - 3 item
How to make chocolate buttermilk squares:
Frosting:1/2 c. butter1/4 c. buttermilk1 tsp. vanilla dash of salt1/4 c. cocoa1 lb. confectioners sugar3/4 c. chopped nuts In a saucepan, bring the cocoa, butter and water to a boil. Cool. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour and salt. Pour cocoa mixture over dry ingredients. Mix well. add baking soda to buttermilk. Add to cocoa mixture along with eggs, vanilla and food coloring. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.Frosting: Melt butter, cocoa and buttermilk. Stir in sugar, vanilla and salt. Spread over warm cake and top with nuts.
