Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 tsp
- flour - 3 5
- water - 4 c
- shortening - 4 Tbsp
- cloves garlic, minced - 3 item
- chili powder - 6 Tbsp
- parsley flakes - 2 tsp
- ground beef - 4 lb
- oregano - 2 tsp
- ground cumin - 4 tsp
- bay leaves - 4 item
- salt or to taste - 2 tsp
- large onions, diced - 2 item
- cans tomatoes, chopped - 2 oz
- cayenne or black pepper to taste - 1 item
- cold water or tomato juice - 1 item
How to make chili:
Brown beef and onions in shortening. Add tomatoes, garlic, bay leaves, oregano, cumin, salt, chili powder, sugar and pepper. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Cook, covered, stirring occasionally for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add water if chili gets too thick during cooking. Add parsley 30 minutes before chili is ready. Mix flour with cold water or tomato juice to form a paste and add to chili to thicken. Stir thoroughly.Recipe categories: Lunch/snacks, One Dish meal, Chili.
