Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • flour - 3 5
  • water - 4 c
  • shortening - 4 Tbsp
  • cloves garlic, minced - 3 item
  • chili powder - 6 Tbsp
  • parsley flakes - 2 tsp
  • ground beef - 4 lb
  • oregano - 2 tsp
  • ground cumin - 4 tsp
  • bay leaves - 4 item
  • salt or to taste - 2 tsp
  • large onions, diced - 2 item
  • cans tomatoes, chopped - 2 oz
  • cayenne or black pepper to taste - 1 item
  • cold water or tomato juice - 1 item

How to make chili:

Brown beef and onions in shortening. Add tomatoes, garlic, bay leaves, oregano, cumin, salt, chili powder, sugar and pepper. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Cook, covered, stirring occasionally for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add water if chili gets too thick during cooking. Add parsley 30 minutes before chili is ready. Mix flour with cold water or tomato juice to form a paste and add to chili to thicken. Stir thoroughly.
