Butternut pound cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3 c
- eggs - 5 item
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour
- water - 1/3 c
- shortening - 1/2 c
- small can evaporated milk - 1 item
- butternut flavoring - 3 tsp
How to make butternut pound cake:
Cream sugar, butter and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time; beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients with milk and water. Add flavoring and beat well. Bake in greased and floured tube or Bundt pan. Start in cold oven at 325°. Bake for 1 hour.Check for doneness at this time; bake longer, if necessary. Ovens, especially electric, vary for this cake since it is started in a cold oven.
Cake gets better the 2nd and 3rd days. Freezes well. Serves 20.
This is a large pound cake with a good flavor. Be sure to use butternut flavoring.
