Buttermilk biscuits
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 2 c
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- all-purpose flour - 5 c
- warm water - 1/4 c
- dry yeast - 1 pkg
How to make buttermilk biscuits:
Combine yeast and warm water. Let stand 5 minutes. Add buttermilk to yeast mixture. Set aside. Combine all remaining ingredients except shortening in a large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk mixture, stirring with a spoon until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead. Let set 1 hour. Roll dough 1/2-inch and cut. Place on greased baking sheets for 1 hour.
