Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • eggs, lightly beaten - 6 item
  • dry mustard - 1 tsp
  • slices bread, cubed - 6 item
  • grated Cheddar cheese - 1 c
  • mild sausage, cooked, crumbled and drained on paper towels - 1 lb

How to make breakfast casserole:

The night before serving, grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Place the bread cubes in the dish. Top with sausage and then the grated cheese. Combine eggs, milk, salt and mustard; pour over the ingredients in the baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.

In the morning, bake at 350° for 45 minutes, or until the egg custard is set and lightly browned. Remove the aluminum foil cover during the last 15 minutes of baking time to allow the casserole to brown. Makes 6 servings.

For a delightful and complete meal, I use oven baked home fries and fried green tomatoes or hot buttered apples.
