Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- cider vinegar - 3 c
- ground cloves - 1/2 tsp
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- medium onions, thinly sliced - 6 item
- sliced medium size cucumbers - 4 qt
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Do not peel cucumbers. Slice and add onions. Add salt and cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly and let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly.Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumbers and onions. Heat just to a boil. Slowly take 15 to 20 minutes to cook before reaching boiling stage. Seal in hot sterilized jars.
