• sugar - 5 c
• vinegar - 5 c
• coarse salt - 1/2 c
• onions, sliced - 8 item
• turmeric - 1 tsp
• pickling spices - 2 Tbsp
• sliced cucumbers - 1 gal

How to make bread and butter pickles:

Pack the cucumbers, onions and coarse salt in 1 quart ice; let stand 3 hours. Drain well. Boil together the sugar, vinegar and pickling spices, tied in cloth. Remove spices. Add the turmeric and cucumbers; heat to boiling point, but do not boil. Pla
