Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- celery seed
- medium onions, sliced - 6 item
- white vinegar - 3 c
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- pickling salt - 1/3 c
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Combine cucumbers, onions and salt. Cover with cold water and ice. Let soak 3 hours. Combine sugar, vinegar, turmeric, celery seed and mustard seed in a large pot. Bring to a boil. Add drained cucumbers and onions. Return to a boil. Put in hot jars. Seal jars. Yields 6 quarts or 12 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
