Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- celery seed
- medium onions, sliced - 6 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- green pepper optional - 1 item
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
- sweet pepper optional - 1 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Put salt and 2 trays of ice cubes on cucumbers, onions and peppers. Cover with cold water. Let stand 3 hours. Drain. Put on sugar, vinegar and spices. Heat just to the boiling point. Put in hot jars and seal. Makes 8 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
