Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 4 c
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- cold water - 2 c
- soda - 2 tsp
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- melted shortening - 1/2 c
- nuts if desired - 1 tsp
- heaping sugar - 2 c
- raisins or dates - 1 lb
How to make boiled cake:
Boil together raisins, sugar, water and shortening. Let cool. Add soda, cloves, nutmeg, salt and flour. Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans. Bake at 350° for 50 to 55 minutes.Recipe attributed to Norma Sanborn.
