Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/2 Tbsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • cold water - 1 c
  • soda - 1 Tbsp
  • margarine - 1 c
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • seedless raisins - 1 c
  • beaten eggs - 2 item
  • chopped nuts and chopped mixed fruit if desired - 1/2 c

How to make boiled cake:

Boil sugar, cold water, margarine, raisins, salt, cloves, soda and cinnamon for 5 minutes. When cool, add beaten eggs, flour and chopped nuts and fruits. Bake in loaf pans that have been greased and floured. Bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours at 275°. Test at end of 1 1/2 hours.

I usually put a shallow pan with 1/4-inch water in bottom of oven. This keeps cake moist.
