  • cider vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • allspice - 1/4 tsp
  • chili powder - 4 Tbsp
  • lean ground beef - 1 lb
  • cumin - 1 tsp
  • coriander - 1/4 tsp
  • 16 oz - 2 c
  • can kidney beans with liquid - 1 oz

How to make best homemade chili:

Cook beef, garlic, onion and green pepper in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat, stirring frequently to break up meat. Cook until onion is soft and meat has lost its pink color. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer the chili for 45 minutes, stirring frequently.

Beanless chili: Follow the basic recipe. Omit the beans; use 2 pounds of lean ground beef and 3/4 teaspoon salt.

Meatless Chili: Follow the basic recipe. Omit the beef and water. Use 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to saute the garlic, onion and pepper. Add one 16 ounce can of garbanzo beans and one 16 ounce can of pinto beans. Makes 6 servings.
