Basic tomato sauce
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- oregano - 1/4 tsp
- can tomato paste - 1 oz
- parsley - 2 Tbsp
- olive oil - 1/2 c
- medium onion, chopped - 1 item
- cloves garlic, chopped - 2 item
- can tomatoes - 1 oz
- dry basil leaves - 1 tsp
How to make basic tomato sauce:
Heat oil and fry onion and garlic until transparent. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar and spices. Bring to boil, then lower temperature and simmer for 2 hours. You can also add meat balls or fried Italian sausage to your sauce before simmering.Meat Balls: Add chopped onion, bread crumbs, salt, egg and a little water to ground beef. Mix well and shape into golf ball size balls. Brown them in pan before adding to sauce.
Recipe can be doubled and part of it frozen.
