Baked macaroni and cheese
Ingredients/Components
- salt
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- water - 6 c
- oil - 1 Tbsp
- cold milk
- dry mustard - 1/2 tsp
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce - 1/4 tsp
- bread crumbs - 1/4 c
- shredded Cheddar cheese
- grated onion - 1/4 c
- elbow macaroni - 2 c
- tomato slices to garnish - 1 item
How to make baked macaroni and cheese:
Butter a 2-quart casserole; set aside. Boil water; add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon oil. Add macaroni; cook until tender but firm. Drain and place in casserole. In a medium saucepan, blend milk and cornstarch. Add 1/4 cup butter, onion, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low; stir in cheese until cheese melts. Spoon over macaroni. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a small skillet. Stir in bread crumbs to toast lightly. Sprinkle crumbs over casserole. Place in a cold oven and bake at 350° for 20 minutes.Recipe categories: Side dish, Pasta, Elbow macaroni.
