  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • eggs, well beaten - 2 item
  • mashed potatoes - 1 c
  • cake yeast - 1 item
  • scalded milk - 1 c
  • potato water warm - 1/4 c

How to make baked donuts:

Add shortening, sugar and salt to the scalded milk; cool to lukewarm. Add mashed potatoes and yeast that has been dissolved in the potato water. Blend in beaten eggs; work in flour gradually. Cover; let rise until light. Place on floured board; knead until smooth. Roll dough about 1/2-inch thick. Bake at 425° until delicate brown. Brush with melted butter. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar, white sugar or cinnamon sugar. These are very delicious.
