  • sugar
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • nutmeg - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • lard or shortening - 1/2 c
  • sliced apples - 4 c

How to make apple cake:

Mix together the first 3 ingredients. Mix the flour, soda, nutmeg, baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and salt with the sugar, eggs and lard. Mixture will be stiff. You will have to use hands. Grease a 12 x 9-inch pan or a loaf pan. Press in dough with the apples. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top. As cake bakes the dough will rise up around the apples. Bake 45 minutes at 350°.
