  • sugar - 3 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 2 c
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • warm water - 2 Tbsp
  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • flour all-purpose - 5 c

How to make angel flake biscuits:

Mix together the first 5 ingredients. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast and buttermilk to dry ingredients and stir with a fork to form a soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead briefly. Store in tightly sealed plastic bag in refrigerator. Pat dough. Do not let rise at any time. Bake at 425° on greased cookie sheet until lightly browned. Dough lasts a week and yields a dozen biscuits per day.
