Ingredients/Components

  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • water - 1/2 c
  • flour - 5 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • sugar - 3 Tbsp
  • baking powder - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • buttermilk I usually use the dry buttermilk mix - 2 c

How to make angel flake biscuits:

Soak yeast in water. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Add yeast, egg and buttermilk and mix well. Put in greased bowl and refrigerate. Roll out on well-floured board and cut biscuits. (The dough will be very sticky.) Let rise. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes. Will keep in covered bowl for 1 week in the refrigerator.
