Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- shortening - 1 c
- egg, separated save white - 1 item
- water - 2/3 c
- or 6 large apples, sliced - 5 item
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon - 1 item
- Separate egg; save the white
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
- milk - 3 4
How to make apple squares:
Mix salt with flour; cut in shortening. Separate egg; save the white. Add yolk to 2/3 cup water and beat. Add to flour mixture. Mix into soft ball stage. Divide dough in half.Roll dough to fit into a cookie sheet. Cover with slices of apple; sprinkle with 1 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll out other half of dough and place on top. Beat egg white until foamy. Spread over top with brush. Bake at 375° for approximately 40 to 45 minutes. Top with glaze.Glaze:2 c. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla2 Tbsp. butter or margarine3 to 4 Tbsp. milk Combine ingredients in bowl until has consistency of glaze.
