Ingredients/Components

  • stick butter - 1 item
  • salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
  • celery, cut fine - 1 c
  • to 6 eggs, beaten - 4 item
  • 1/2 loaves bread - 1 item
  • small onion, cut up - 1 item
  • carrots, diced fine - 1 c
  • potatoes, diced fine - 1 c
  • chicken broth with meat pieces bouillon cubes can be added

How to make amish dressing:

Prepare bread by cutting in small pieces and toasting in oven. Melt butter in skillet and put crumbs in to toast a little, this adds good flavor. In a larger bowl, put chicken pieces, broth, cooked vegetables (potatoes, celery and carrots, cut the size of peas, and cooked in salt water), salt, pepper, onions and beaten eggs. (If not enough broth to soak up bread, add some milk.) Pour over toasted bread. Grease roaster. Put dressing in and bake covered at 350° approximately 1 hour. Serves 12 to 15. If stuffing bird, omit broth, eggs and milk.
