Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 8 c
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • dry yeast - 2 pkg
  • lukewarm water - 1 item

How to make yeast rolls:

Cut shortening, sugar and salt into flour with pastry blender. Make a hole in dry ingredients. Add yeast that had been dissolved in one cup warm water with 1 tablespoon sugar. Add egg and beat dough as you add the warm water to make a dough that is easy to work with (knead well).

Place in warm bowl that has been greased. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake in 400° oven until browned as desired. Makes about 68 rolls.
